The Masters: Joe LaCava, Tiger Woods’s caddie, is optimistic that the former world No. 1 would be able to play in “three or four events” before making a comeback at The Masters in April of 2019.
Since suffering life-threatening injuries in the vehicle accident in February of last year, Woods has played in just three competitive events, finishing in 47th place at The Masters in April and withdrawing mid-tournament from the PGA Championship a month later.
The previous world No. 1 skipped the US Open last month so that he could prepare for “at least one more run at a high level” on The 150th Open’s iconic Old Course, where he laboured to a missed cut after rounds of 78 and 75 at St. Andrews.
After his early exit, an emotional Woods refuted rumours of retirement but said he had “nothing scheduled” when questioned about his future plans. However, his caddie thinks the 15-time major champion might still play in a tournament before the year is over.
“I’m hoping that he will play maybe in December at the Hero [World Challenge] and the Father-Son [PNC Championship] and maybe the Genesis [Invitational],” LaCava told the Dan Patrick Show. “I’m still hoping he’ll play three, maybe four tournaments before The Masters.
Although I am disappointed to be heading home, I had an incredible week at St Andrews celebrating 150 years of history and the game we love. I want to thank this place for all the memories it has given me, and to the fans today for having the walk up 18 be added to that list. pic.twitter.com/VHD93MfeSl

“I won’t do much. I’ll do the same thing and say to Tiger ‘if you’re starting to feel better maybe October, November, maybe I’ll come down for a couple of weeks, we’ll hang out. We don’t have to play every day, we don’t have to practice every day, I’ll just be there and give you a little motivation.
“We’ll play and practice a little bit here and there, and maybe get him ready for the Hero and get ready for 2023 and get him ready in any respect that he needs.”
