The Masters: When players from both tours compete against one another at The Masters, Patrick Reed is adamant that there won’t be any hostility between LIV Golf members and their PGA Tour colleagues.
As a former Masters champion, Reed is one of six Active players who has a lifetime exemption at Augusta National. Other players with lifetime exemptions include Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau.
The Masters, the first men’s major of the year, will be broadcast exclusively live from April 6–9, with 17 LIV players expected to compete. All members of the Saudi-backed circuit who still qualify under the tournament entrance rules have received invitations.
Before the most recent LIV Golf League competition in Orlando, Reed remarked, “It’s one of those things; the media and the narrative are going to be LIV vs PGA Tour and all that kind of stuff.”
“But, regardless of where they are from, all of the greatest players in the world go to the majors and compete against one another. No matter what circuit they are on or anything else, the best players are going to compete for one of the most sought-after events in the world.
“Going out and having fun will be routine for us, at least for me. Would I prefer LIV to be at the top? No doubt. But in the end, it just comes down to each of us going in and trying to play the greatest game of golf we can to be prepared for the four most important weeks of the year.”
I don’t have anything against anyone, Watson.
Although LIV members are certain to attend the Champions Dinner on Tuesday of Masters week, where Tiger Woods previously stated he “didn’t know what the reaction’s going to be,” two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson is forecasting no problems throughout the competition.
“Only the media find it awkward,” according to Watson. “I’ve spoken to people who will be there. Some folks have already invited me to play some practise rounds, and I’m going to sign up for the par-three with Jason Day and Cam Young.
“The only party pushing it is the media. Nobody is the target of my animosity. I won’t be angry with you if you change jobs.”
