LPGA Match-Play: Eun-Hee Ji of South Korea won the LPGA Match-Play championship in Las Vegas, defeating Ayaka Furue of Japan 3 and 2 to secure the final slot in the US Women’s Open.
Ji fell behind after two bogeys but rallied to win three of the next four holes, including a 92-yard eagle putt on the par-five ninth to claim her sixth LPGA Tour triumph.
The 36-year-old was then invited to compete in the US Women’s Open, which she won in 2009. This year’s version begins on Thursday.
“It’s still surreal and hasn’t sunk in,” Ji said. “I think it’ll hit me once I go there. Hopefully, I can continue this week’s momentum.
“I’ll get there, rest first, and then see the course and just do the same thing as this week.”
On Sunday, Ji defeated Andrea Lee 4 to 3 in the semi-finals, while Furue defeated Lilia Vu 2 to 1 in the final.
Eun-Hee Ji won the third hole to take a one-shot lead in the final, but bogeyed the fourth and seventh holes, both par-fives, to put herself in jeopardy.
Her eagle at the ninth hole, however, launched a comeback, and she was two up with three holes to play when she parred the 16th, while Furue bogeyed.
Ji won six of her seven matches in five days at Shadow Creek, her first LPGA Tour victory since 2019.
Vu, on the other hand, upset Lee 3 to 2 in the third-place match.
