WWT Championship: Scottie Scheffler nearly missed regaining the top spot in the world rankings as Russell Henley narrowly prevailed after an early scare to win the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico.
When Scheffler birdied the 18th to complete a spotless 62, Henley’s six-shot overnight advantage had shrunk to four, and it had shrunk to three when Henley made his first mistake of the week on the fifth.
The 33-year-old American shot birdies on the following three holes, however, and went on to win his first PGA Tour championship since the 2017 Houston Open.

Henley, who had lost all five of his previous 54-hole leads, said to Golf Channel: “I just tried to learn from my mistakes and the past.
“All of those events I failed to close stung, and you never know whether you’ll win another one because it’s so difficult here.
“It was pretty cool to come down 18 with a four-shot lead.”
With a final-round score of 70, Henley tied the tournament record and finished four shots ahead of fellow American Brian Harman with a score of 23 under par.
Scheffler tied for third place on 18 under par with Will Gordon, Seamus Power, Joel Dahmen, Troy Merritt, and Joel Dahmen of Ireland. Scheffler needed to win or finish alone in second place to retake the top spot in the world rankings from Rory McIlroy.
Viktor Hovland of Norway, who was attempting to win the competition for the third consecutive year, shot a final-round score of 68 and tied for 10th place.
