Argentina Open: At the Argentina Open on Wednesday, top seed and former world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz was successful in making his long-anticipated comeback.
The US Open champion beat Serbian Laslo Djere 6-2 4-6 6-2 after being forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to injury.
The 19-year-old Spaniard recently lost the top spot in the rankings to seasoned Novak Djokovic after going without a match since November.
Alcaraz dominated when competing in Buenos Aires under the lights, securing his first victory since suffering an abdominal injury during the Paris Masters in November.
Alcaraz added, “Winning again is a tremendous feeling. I’ve been recovering for a very long time, with no competition or matches. Finally, I earned my first victory of 2023.”
Alcaraz will next take on Dusan Lajovic, a Serbian who lost to Alcaraz in straight sets in their lone prior encounter in the second round of the 2017 Australian Open.
Norrie overcomes fear to advance in Argentina
On Wednesday at the Argentina Open, British No. 1 Cameron Norrie overcame local wildcard Facundo Diaz Acosta by a long shot.
In Buenos Aires, the world No. 12 overcame a set deficit to defeat the hometown favourite 4-6 7-5 7-6 (6).
In the quarterfinals, Norrie, the second seed, will now play Tomas Martin Etcheverry, another Argentine.

De Minaur won the match in an hour and 21 minutes and claimed his third victory over the Russian in four meetings with just one serve break in each set.

Iga Swiatek, the world’s top player, made an amazing comeback by crushing Danielle Collins at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
Swiatek, who was playing in her first match since the Australian Open, proved to be too powerful for the American in Doha, defeating her 6-0, 6-1, in just 53 minutes.
