Boxing News: Some combatants choose to speak with their fists.
They would have a very obvious message in Artur Beterbiev’s case. Take fright. He may be the most intimidating man in modern boxing with a 100% knockout rate, an undefeated record, and three world title belts.
Beterbiev, who was born in Khasavyurt, Russia, but now calls Montreal home, has won all 18 of his professional fights, and he is the undisputed WBO, WBC, and IBF light-heavyweight champion.
His victories have been won in the most stunning manner. In each of those 18 matches, he prevailed by knockout, frequently with devastating strikes.
He added the WBO championship to his resume by defeating Joe Smith in just two rounds in his most recent battle.
Anthony Yarde of London will be the next to take on the terrifying Beterbiev when he fights for his united championship on Saturday night at Wembley Arena.
In 2019, Sergey Kovalev defeated Yarde in a bout for a world championship. A split decision also went in favour of Lyndon Arthur over Yarde, but the Londoner admirably exacted revenge by stopping Arthur in 2021.
Despite the fact that Beterbiev is 38 years old, Yarde is still a big underdog. The opportunity for Yarde to get his shot now may be ideal.
When speaking with Sky Sports, Beterbiev maintained his cryptic demeanour.
“Boxing is it. You never know what will happen in a boxing match. We’ll do our best to be prepared for anything. We’ll wait and see. I’m curious about what will transpire as well,” Beterbiev told Sky Sports.
“[Yarde] is competent as my adversary. He is powerful. He has had some good fights and has good professional boxing experience. I’m fully prepared for this fight and will be at all times.”
Beterbiev offers more than just pure punching might. He uses his destructive, hefty hands in boxing, but he does so with incredible skill. However, the united champion is unconcerned about whether or not those skills are undervalued.
“They must make that decision while observing me. If they believe I’m just strong, that’s fine, or if they believe I’m not a bad boxer technically,” he shrugged. “I know what I need to have in mind.
“I’m not considering it. Just trying to get my stuff done.”
For his part, Yarde feels unafraid going into this fight.
“He is a living entity. In my life, I’ve encountered a lot more frightening individuals in person.” He told Sky Sports that he is an ordinary person.
“From my perspective, he has been punch-perfect thus far in his boxing career. But there’s just one more man in front of me.”
