Fantastic Champion: Oleksandr Usyk has ‘been a brilliant champion, but everything must come to an end,’ according to Daniel Dubois, while his trainer believes he is ‘destined to become unified world champion.’
On August 26, in Wroclaw, Poland, the Londoner will face Usyk for the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight belts.
Dubois will make his first ring appearance since a third-round stoppage victory over Kevin Lerena in December, a bout in which he was knocked down three times in the opening round and sustained a knee injury.
“First and foremost, the knee is OK. That’s all settled now; I’m at training camp, running, and everything is going swimmingly. I’m grateful for this opportunity, and I’m ready to seize it,” Dubois added.
“It’s been a long time coming, and I’m ready to tackle it. Usyk has been a fantastic champion, but everything has its end. I’m prepared.”
After separating with Shane McGuigan, Dubois is now working with Don Charles, and his new trainer is certain of success in August.
“It is well known that my collaboration with Daniel has only lately begun. But when faith brings people together, it is more powerful than anything else,” he observed.
“Faith brought us together, and he is destined, I repeat, destined to become the first unified world champion. That’s why we came.”
Usyk successfully defended his crowns against Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia a year ago.
“I want to thank the guys who are defending Ukraine right now,” he continued, “because only because they are doing this do we have the opportunity to defend our titles, have fights outside of Ukraine, and bring glory to our country and the flag of our country.”
“I had won the WBO cruiserweight title here [in Poland]. We beat each other for a little while here with Krzysztof Gowacki. I earned multiple belts over the following seven years and am currently back in Poland to defend them.”
