Boxing Live: A challenge has been issued to Martin Bakole. Promoter Ben Shalom believes that an “explosive” performance against Ihor Shevadzutskyi could result in the high-profile heavyweight matchup he desires.
Bakole is committed to entering the heavyweight division’s elite. Bakole, who is already highly ranked with the WBA, will have more alternatives if he can defeat the Ukrainian “Hulk” Shevadzutskyi on Saturday.
In his bout this weekend with Shevadzutskyi at the G2A Arena in Rzeszow, Poland, promoter Ben Shalom wants Bakole to make a statement.
“The Hulk has never been defeated before,” according to Shalom, who spoke to Sky Sports. It’s a serious test.
“Martin will want to deliver a powerful performance.”
He must defeat him in six rounds, in my opinion, the promoter continued. He’ll want to demonstrate his explosiveness. Since his battle with [Tony] Yoka in Paris last year, he hasn’t engaged in combat. Yoka needs to make a statement because he recently lost to [Carlos] Takam.
“Everything is available to him if he puts up a show. For the Interim [or regular] title with the WBA, he seeks Daniel Dubois. He desires a duel with Oleksandr Usyk. The objective would be that.”
The heavyweight division is rife with opportunities. Negotiations are ongoing between Usyk and Dubois to compete for the combined WBA, WBO, and IBF belts. Tyson Fury, the WBC champion, Anthony Joshua, and Dillian Whyte have not yet announced their upcoming contests.
During Saturday’s battle, Bakole said, “The only guy I will call out is Daniel Dubois because he has the belt I want to be No. 1 for Usyk or anybody. If the fight between Dubois and Usyk does not take place.”
“Because he holds the No. 1 regular ranking in the WBA and I hold the No. 2 spot, we don’t need to discuss this bout too much.
Bakole is sure that the battle with Dubois was his due. The regular champion is the challenger because, in his words, “he deserves it.”
“If he triumphs, he must agree to face me, as I might become the No. 1 fighter. Boxing has evolved into a political sport, and my team is working hard to get me this match.
“I’ve been calling them out and mentioning everyone, but no one has acknowledged me or responded, so people are now avoiding me.
“No more evading. I’ll work hard to be the No. 1 challenger.”
