Boxing Live: Joe Joyce might be regarded as the top heavyweight without a world championship right now.
Silver medalist Joyce from the 2016 Olympics has displayed impressive strength throughout his unblemished career.
He has beaten Carlos Takam, Joseph Parker, and Daniel Dubois, improving to 15-0 with 14 knockout victories.
Being the mandatory challenger for the WBO’s complete world championship, he holds the interim title and is ranked third in the world among heavyweights behind Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in the Transnational Boxing Rankings, an independent ranking system.
Usyk, who holds the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts, and WBC champion Fury were unable to come to terms on an undisputed title match. Usyk will now move on and attempt to defend his unified titles.
However, Daniel Dubois is the first of Usyk’s obligatory challengers to be announced, and talks for that fight have just started. Dubois is in line for a shot at the WBA heavyweight belt.
According to Joyce, “It is bothersome. It definitely irritates me that Dubois and [IBF mandatory Filip] Hrgovic are in front of me in line.
“I’m sorry, but I have no control over it. So it was lucky that Dubois was chosen before me for the [unified championship attempt] despite having just suffered a crushing defeat [against me].
“Something like this would only occur in boxing.
“I don’t find much surprising. I’ll receive my shot if I’m just patient. I can win the global title if I just keep beating these people. It’s an exciting time, and I’m in a terrific position. There are many exciting battles out there.
“I will ultimately arrive there. It’s only a matter of time because I’m right there,” he continued.
“I’m confident in my abilities, and I perform well in combat. It will be challenging to stop me.”
On Saturday, Joyce will face Zhilei Zhang in her subsequent match. The Chinese heavyweight is a southpaw, a seasoned veteran, and an Olympic silver medalist from Beijing in 2008.
