Boxing News: Martin Bakole will attempt to force a fight for Daniel Dubois’ WBA “regular” championship, which is currently held by the London heavyweight.
In his most recent match, Bakole defeated French Olympic champion Tony Yoka with a commanding, decisive victory from the opposition’s corner.
Bakole, who was born in the Congo and now calls Scotland home, has only suffered one defeat in his 19 professional bouts.
He has joined new promoter BOXXER and is now ranked second in the WBA’s heavyweight world rankings.
Bakole hopes to force a shot at Dubois, according to Ben Shalom of BOXXER who spoke with Sky Sports.
“Martin wants that title, so I believe they are ready to order a mandatory for Daniel. Martin currently has the top spot in the WBA,” said Shalom.
“He was very outstanding to go out and accomplish that in Paris against a previous Olympic champion after his victory over Tony Yoka. He is arguably the most avoided heavyweight on the circuit. happy to have him. I believe he will soon be a world title contender.”
Oleksandr Usyk is the WBA’s official full world champion, but Dubois is the organization’s secondary or “regular” champion.
The Londoner is making a full recovery from an injury he suffered in his most recent fight, a close encounter with Kevin Lerena. But that’s the fight Bakole wants to have.
“Martin supports himself in every heavyweight category matchup. They are prepared to go, and Daniel Dubois is on his list and Billy Nelson [Bakole’s trainer] has been talking about him for a while,” Shalom added.
“We absolutely have our eyes on that crown. Obviously, Daniel is currently hurt. Fortunately, Martin will make him fight anyone. He would accept any name they chose for him to challenge for that title.
“So we have a very, very capable heavyweight that is ready to take on anyone. That mixture is excellent.”
