Boxing News: Promoter Alex Krassyuk of Oleksandr Usyk called Tyson Fury out for “contradicting” himself after their planned fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship fell through.
The Ukrainian team announced that they are in discussions about a potential championship defence against mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois after Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed heavyweight match against Tyson Fury was called off due to injury.
Usyk and Fury were expected to fight on April 29 at Wembley, but it was revealed last week that they had been unable to come to terms. This appears to have opened the door for Dubois to go to the next spot in the WBA rankings.
The WBA, IBF, and WBO champion Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, has criticised Fury for his part in the fight’s breakdown.
“You meet the other contradiction in the champion himself,” said Krassyuk to Sky Sports. “The team considers him RTG – random thought generator.”
“That implies he first considers retirement, then 20 fights per year, then fighting for free and donating everything, and last he considers returning.
“It appears a little disjointed and random.”
Since then, Joe Joyce has become a potential challenger for Tyson Fury should he defeat Olympic silver medalist Zhilei Zhang on April 15 in London.
Dubois is currently attempting to make a name for himself as one of the best heavyweights in the world while Filip Hrgovic has also been mentioned as the mandatory challenger for the IBF title.
“The WBA mandatory is Usyk’s closest opportunity, so Daniel Dubois,” according to Krassyuk.
“In a discussion with George Warren yesterday, we talked about what we’re going to do and what we’re capable of.
“We’re thinking about our options right now, and one of them is Manchester or London. Maybe the UK will use our solution if we can come up with one.”
