Boxing News: According to Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, Conor Benn will probably learn by the end of the year whether he will be added back to the rankings.
Before his fight against Chris Eubank Jr., slated for October, was abruptly cancelled, Benn acknowledged failing two drug tests in July and September, but he has pledged to prove his innocence.
The WBC has demoted Benn from the fifth-place position he previously held in its welterweight rankings, and the organization’s Clean Boxing Program is currently conducting its inquiry.
“The clean boxing programme is doing an inquiry, and we anticipate having a final determination by (the end of) December, ideally.
“Benn and the team have worked well together, and we appreciate that. As soon as we get all the necessary paperwork, we’ll meet with him to discuss the case and make a decision.
They have been helpful, and everything appears to be set up for a successful outcome by the end of this month.
Benn reported that tests conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on July 25 and September 1 detected trace levels of the female fertility medication clomifene in his pee.
After a tribunal affirmed “allegations of wrongdoing,” Benn, who claimed he and his team believed the contamination was to blame for the positive tests, renounced his British boxing licence in October.
Sulaiman stated that he did not wish to predict the eventual conclusion of Benn’s case, but he did draw attention to the WBC protocols, which feature bans of up to three years as potential penalties for infractions.
I don’t like to guess,” Sulaiman continued.
It would be reckless of me to say something that might be misunderstood.
“We’re conducting the investigation, and the processes and scenario descriptions are available to the public on the WBC website.”
