UK Anti-Doping: After allegations that he had been “provisionally suspended” by UK Anti-Doping, Conor Benn has acknowledged that he is “in communication” with the organisation.
After testing positive for a prohibited substance prior to the anticipated catchweight fight against Chris Eubank Jr. last October, the unbeaten welterweight contender was recently reinstated to the WBC rankings.
Benn, though, is still under investigation by UKAD and The BBBoC, according to Boxing News, which also noted that UKAD temporarily suspended the 26-year-old on March 15.
“I can’t comment on anything to do with UKAD other than to say that I am in touch with them,” Benn responded on Twitter.
“I remain free to fight outside the UK,” he continued.
In June, Benn is rumoured to be making a comeback bout in either the Middle East or the USA.
Benn continued to tweet the following: “It’s all politics now; it’s not even about my innocence anymore. A good man cannot be kept down.”
Also, according to The Daily Mail, Benn’s team has sent UKAD a dossier of evidence that was given to the WBC.
Benn released a statement in which he welcomed his return to the rankings but claimed the sanctioning body had done him a “disservice” by claiming that his “highly-elevated consumption of eggs” was a “logical explanation” for his failed test.
“I feel like the WBC statement did a disservice to my defence,” Benn said in a statement issued last month. “My defence was based upon a thorough scientific review of the testing procedures, which set out a number of reasons why we believed the results were completely unreliable and proved beyond a reasonable doubt that I am innocent.”
The BBBoC released a statement after his re-entry into the rankings claiming that it had not taken part in the WBC’s inquiry and that the decision to restore him “does not alter the continuous application” of the board’s regulations.
