Boxing News: On November 26 at Alexandra Palace, Mikael Lawal will compete for the vacant British title against rival London cruiserweight Deion Jumah.
Lawal is an unbeaten power puncher who has triumphed in 10 of his 16 professional bouts at close range. Jumah has competed in 15 matches and has only suffered one defeat, which came in a respectable performance against Richard Riakporhe, a world-class fighter.
Both men place a great deal of importance on this bout and the British title. Lawal told Sky Sports, “I can now turn my life around for the better.
“I became interested in boxing for that reason. to be given a fresh start. For me, this is much more than simply boxing.
“It would be such an incredible experience if I were to win.
“For me, that’s what matters most. I must ensure that I receive that British title. Considering that will advance everything and my career, “Added he.
“I have nothing to prove to anyone. I’m attempting to convince myself of something.”
He is aware of Jumah’s potential for danger. Lawal warned, “You have to be careful with him. He’s incredibly skilled and sneaky.” “His status as a southpaw offers him a slight advantage.
“We used to spar when I first started boxing; I believe he had just gone pro at the time. I was really successful at the time “he added.
“That was me when I was just starting out in my career. I bring a lot more to the table now that I’ve gained a lot more experience and am older. We must now assess the dynamic.”
Lawal has previously sparred extensively with Oleksandr Usyk, the top southpaw in the world. Before Usyk moved up to heavyweight to defeat Anthony Joshua, he trained with the Ukrainian while he was a cruiserweight champion.
It provided me a sense of where I am in my profession, according to Lawal.
