Cricket News: Following his spectacular performance (hitting a double century in his 100th Test at the MCG against South Africa on Boxing Day), Australia’s great batsman David Warner has come under heavy fire for his recent slump. After the Test series against South Africa, the left-handed batsman had the option of ending his professional career. Nonetheless, despite persistent criticism, he was willing to accept a challenge before calling it quits on his career.
Candice, Warner’s wife, has acknowledged her husband’s passion for cricket. The cricketer, according to her, still wants to start at bat for Australia. Notably, he is anticipated to call it quits this year following the Ashes.
“David still has a strong ambition to lead Australia’s batting order. He still has a tonne of goals that he hasn’t yet attained, according to Candice,” who spoke to Yahoo Sports.
“And without a doubt, one of those would be to compete valiantly in England against the Duke’s ball. I’m not sure if the selectors and coach would let him do it. But I am aware that he still harbours the urge and the hunger to carry on. David is completely aware that he would prefer to go on his terms, but that chance isn’t always available.”
Following the Sydney Test, he could have simply retired: Candice Warner
“After the Sydney Test this year, he could have easily retired, but that’s not what he wants. He still desired to participate in the team in India and remain there during the Ashes, so we’ll just have to wait and see,” she continued.
Warner is fully dedicated to playing cricket for Australia, according to Candice, despite having the opportunity to participate in a number of T20 leagues throughout the world. The 36-year-old took part in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India but was forced to withdraw after suffering a hairline fracture in Delhi’s second Test. In the first two Tests against India, he had trouble, scoring just 1, 10, and 15 in three innings, respectively. He overcame the injury, though, and is now participating in the third ODI against Australia.
“Whether it be the IPL, the Dubai League, the BBL, America, South Africa, or Pakistan, there are so many (T20 franchises) around the world. He is enthusiastic about and wants to grow his career with Fox Sports. He is currently totally committed to playing cricket for Australia, so we’ll just have to wait and see,” she remarked.
