PSV is looking for a Cody Gakpo replacement to strengthen itself offensively in this transfer window, following the sale of the forward. The club is exploring two tracks: players who are there immediately or a talented young attacker for the long term. In the latter category, PSV follows the performance of Keito Nakamura.
With the arrival of Anwar El Ghazi last summer, PSV already acted proactively on a possible departure of Cody Gakpo. Now that the Eindhoven star player has left for Liverpool, El Ghazi is the first candidate for the left wing position in Ruud van Nistelrooij’s team.
Nevertheless, the flush for that spot is thin, so it makes sense for PSV to explore the market. After earlier names of Victor Tsygankov (Dinamo Kiev), Jesper Karlsson (AZ) and also Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund, rental construction) passed in review, Keito Nakamura is now also mentioned.
The 22-year-old Japanese currently plays for LASK Linz in Austria, where he impresses with eight goals and five assists in fifteen games. Nakamura is no stranger to the Netherlands, he played for FC Twente in the 2019/20 season.
Keito Nakamura’s Eredivisie experience
Keito Nakamura left FC Twente after just one season. The loan deal of the Japanese youth international actually ran for another year, but was terminated prematurely. The Tukkers also waived the option to buy.
“Although I only played one season for FC Twente, I felt happy here every day. And I believed that I was growing steadily as a footballer,” Nakamura said on the club website. “I am proud that I was able to start my career in Europe at FC Twente. Next season I will play for Sint Truiden, I want to take the experience I gained here with me.”
Nakamura still has a contract until mid-2025, but he is open to a departure from Austria. Sources say the left winger should cost between five and six million euros. However, the interest of PSV is not yet concrete at the moment.
