In addition to Ruud van Nistelroy, Fred Rutten also leaves PSV. He will still be on the bench as head coach against AZ next Sunday, but will close the door in Eindhoven after this season.
Fred Rutten also leaves PSV
Assistant coach André Ooijer recently announced that he would leave PSV after this season, but with the sudden departure of Ruud van Nistelroy it also became clear that Rutten is calling it a day. Several players pleaded to keep Rutten, but Van Nistelroy also felt no support from the club management.
“Those are two important assistants, who we chose together,” said technical director Earnest Stewart at a press conference. “They also came mainly from Ruud’s sleeve and we were very happy with them. If those two stop, it is a signal to talk about it. You start with that right away, because you look: who are the right people to assist Ruud.”
Rutten worked in the past as head coach of PSV, Feyenoord and FC Twente, among others. Unlike Van Nistelroy, he will finish the season at PSV. As a result, he is primarily responsible for the last match against AZ. “I asked Fred to sit on the bench next Sunday at a difficult time for PSV,” said Stewart.
Due to the departure of the trio, PSV will have to look for an almost completely new technical staff for next season. The Eindhoven club had just finally filled an important vacancy with the arrival of Stewart as technical director, but must therefore look again.
Simons says goodbye to Van Nistelroy: “Forever grateful”
Xavi Simons responded to the sudden departure of Ruud van Nistelroy as PSV trainer. The star player of the team from Eindhoven thanks the coach for his work this season.
Van Nistelroy surprisingly resigned on Wednesday. Hassle in his coaching staff, a lack of support from the club management and criticism from players about his performance were the reasons for the decision. When De Telegraaf broke the news, the newspaper named Simons as one of the players who would have complained.
The attacking midfielder was furious that his name was specifically mentioned in the newspaper. Simons contacted Van Nistelroy to clarify and now expresses gratitude on Twitter: “Thank you for making me a better player, helping me achieve my dreams and helping to ensure that I was allowed to join the Dutch national team,” writes Simons.
“I am eternally grateful to you. Good luck in the future, sir,” concludes the playmaker. Simons played 47 games under Van Nistelroy this season, scoring twenty times and providing twelve assists.
