LIV Golf: The most well-known athlete to switch to the LIV Golf Invitational Series is Bubba Watson.
Before the third LIV series event at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey began, the two-time Masters champion’s switch to the Saudi-backed series was officially announced.
The 44-year-move old’s follows Henrik Stenson’s recent departure from the breakaway tour, to which Watson has long been rumoured to be considering joining. As Bedminster, Stenson is making his LIV debut.
As he continues to rehabilitate from a torn meniscus sustained in May, the world No. 86 will act as an off-course captain throughout this week’s competition.
“When I think about the team atmosphere, in 2016 at the Ryder Cup I was seventh in the world but I was an assistant captain and that was fun for me, I enjoyed it more than playing golf itself,” said Watson.
“When you talk about junior camps and other things that our teams can do together, it makes sense for me to share some expertise, to encourage, to help the team improve and get better, and to attempt to win tournaments while also trying to grow the game.
“My wife was in favour of the concept, we talked about it in prayer, made the choice, and now here we are. It’s no longer an individual sport where you are just out there trying to figure out how to play the game solo; now that you have teammates, you can bounce ideas off of one another.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things, everybody I’ve walked to on the Tour says it’s amazing, they were so excited they’d done it.”
The former World No. 2 has won 14 times since becoming pro while representing the United States at four Ryder Cups.
“Bubba Watson is a tremendous addition to LIV Golf – another major champion joining the growing list of stars on our teams. His game combines the power, innovation, and excitement that the LIV Golf brand represents,” said LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman.
“He’s a risk-taker who has cemented his name among the world’s very best and we’re eager for him to come aboard to bring new energy and audiences to this league.”
