Miami Open: Cameron Norrie was knocked out in straight sets in the second round of the Miami Open by France’s Gregoire Barrere.
The 27-year-old British No. 1 has relished his travels to Miami in recent years, winning the title in 2021 and reaching the quarter-finals last year.
On Saturday, though, he was completely outplayed by Barrere, who won 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and ten minutes.
After trading early holds, Barrere broke Norrie’s serve in the eighth game, and the Briton could only give light resistance, with the Frenchman strolling home to set up a third-round match with Christopher Eubanks.
The American qualifier achieved the best win of his career, defeating 17th-seeded Croatian Borna Coric 3-6 6-4 6-2.
Evans’ losing streak is still going on.
Meanwhile, British No. 2 Dan Evans’ six-match losing streak was extended as Italian Lorenzo Sonego recovered from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two and a half hours.
Evans had started well, taking an early break in the first game and then holding on to lead 2-0 before completing the first set.
Nevertheless, the Italian world No. 59 rallied to break Evans in the fourth game of the second set before holding a crucial hold in the following game to tie the match.
The momentum remained with the Italian, who broke twice in the deciding set to open up a 4-0 lead and never seemed like giving Evans a chance.
