Tennis Player: A man has been charged with five counts in relation to the incident after Nick Kyrgios’ car was taken in Canberra on Monday. Nick utilised the Tesla app to help locate his vehicle.
Tennis pro Nick Kyrgios assisted law enforcement in Canberra in apprehending a suspect who is accused of stealing a Tesla at gunpoint.
According to court records, Kyrgios used the Tesla app to follow and slow down the car as police chased it on Monday morning in Canberra, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. On Monday, just 30 minutes after the alleged offence started, he was taken into custody in Canberra, and the car was found.
According to the broadcaster, according to court documents, a man allegedly requested the car keys from Kyrgios’ mother, Norlaila Kyrgios, while brandishing a gun.
As soon as the man started the car, she yelled to Kyrgios who was close and dialled a police emergency number.
When the car entered a school zone, the police chase came to an end, and a cordon was set up to stop it. A man was then quickly taken into custody.
About 30 minutes after the alleged offence started, he was taken into custody in Canberra, and the car was found around 9:05 am on Monday.
After being charged with five offences connected to the event, including aggravated robbery, using a stolen car, reckless driving, and failing to halt for police, a 32-year-old man was denied bail after appearing in the Australian Capital Territory Magistrates’ Court.
Since pulling out of competition in Japan last October due to a knee injury, Kyrgios has not participated in a competitive match at the highest level. He did, however, make it to the Wimbledon final and the US Open quarterfinals last year.
